South Wales Police Authority has become the first Police Authority in Wales to achieve the Rainbow Mark from the LGBT Excellence Centre – highlighting commitment towards the needs and issues of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Wales.
 
In addition, South Wales Police Authority is also the second organisation to achieve the standard supported by the Welsh Assembly Government after Cardiff Local Education Authority.

Chief Constable Peter Vaughan has been honoured by members of the minority ethnic communities in South Wales.
 
Mr Vaughan was presented with glass awards, with inscriptions of Allah and the Prophet Mohammed PBUH, by members of South Wales Police Authority, who represent minority ethnic communities.

Alan Fry, Chief Executive of the Police Authority, sets out some of the details of the Police Reform proposals, and how it will effect South Wales:
 
At the end of July, Home Secretary Theresa May set out the Coalition Government’s proposals for reforming the police service.  She said the plans were “the most radical change to policing in 50 years”.  That is something that cannot be denied.

South Wales Police Authority is giving the public a chance to have their say on the police reform proposals put forward by the Home Office.
 
At the end of July, the Home Secretary Theresa May outlined proposals to abolish Police Authorities, and replace them with directly elected Police and Crime Commissioners.

Hawthorn Voluntary Playground Action Group is now £2500 better off, thanks to a donation from South Wales Police Authority.
 
The grant, given from the Authority’s Police Property Act Fund, was awarded to help renovate and replace playground equipment in the Hawthorn area of Rhondda Cynon Taf.

A fantastic response has been given to this years Community Safety Volunteer of the Year awards, South Wales Police Authority has revealed.
 
In total, 40 nominations were received across the four categories – volunteer of the year, young volunteer, volunteer team and volunteer initiative.

The Home Office has issued the ‘Policing in the 21st Century: Reconnecting police and the people’ consultation document.
 
Speaking of the proposals within the document, Chair of South Wales Police Authority, Councillor Russell Roberts, said: “Home Secretary Theresa May has set out the Coalition Government’s proposals for the overhaul of the police service.  As an Authority, we recognise that changes need to be made, and welcome the drive to cut the role of Central Government in policing, thus allowing greater concentration on local priorities.

South Wales Police Authority has today launched its Equality and Human Rights Scheme.
 
The Scheme sets out the Authority’s commitments to tackling equality and human rights issues over the next 3 years.

South Wales Police Authority has today published its Annual Report for 2009-10.
 
The annual report, which can be found at the Police Authority website – www.southwalespoliceauthority.org.uk, highlights the excellent performance of the police during the last 12 months.  The report shows that nearly 14,000 fewer crimes took place between April 2009 and March 2010, which is equal to 37 less victims of crime every day.

Glyn-Aman Neighbourhood Watch is now nearly £1000 better off, thanks to a donation from South Wales Police Authority.
 
The grant, given from the Authority’s Police Property Act Fund, was awarded to help the group provide the school children from the local junior school with high visibility waistcoats for their ‘walking bus’.
