Police Dogs and Horses Visited

Volunteers have visited Police dogs and horses to make sure they are treated properly, thanks to a scheme from South Wales Police Authority.

The scheme, which sees the visitors check the facilities at the Dog and Mounted Section at Waterton, Bridgend, is seen as an excellent way for people to be confident that the animals are treated properly.

A total of 46 visits took place to the site during 1 April 2009 and 31 March 2010 by the ten animal welfare visitors.

The reports of the visitors show that the condition of the animals remains excellent, as well as the surroundings they are kept in.  Issues which were raised related to small, minor ailments, which were properly treated through veterinary care.

Chair of the Animal Welfare Visiting Scheme, Mrs Joy Whinney, said: “The commitment of these visitors is excellent.  They use their own time to carry out the checks on the animals, and we at the Police Authority are grateful for their dedication.
“Police dogs and horses are seen as some of the most recognisable and best loved members of the force, and so it is essential that they are kept and treated properly.”
