Rhondda Cynon Taf Councillor, Russell Roberts, is to continue as Chair of South Wales Police Authority following today’s Annual General Meeting.
The Councillor, who represents Labour in the Tonyrefail East Ward in Rhondda Cynon Taf has been a member of the Police Authority for twelve years.

South Wales Police Authority’s Independent Custody Visiting volunteers have been busy during 2009-10, visiting custody suites a total of 504 times.
The 17 custody units have been visited by the volunteer members of the public to check on the welfare of the people held in custody, and the conditions they are kept in.

Volunteers have visited Police dogs and horses to make sure they are treated properly, thanks to a scheme from South Wales Police Authority.
The scheme, which sees the visitors check the facilities at the Dog and Mounted Section at Waterton, Bridgend, is seen as an excellent way for people to be confident that the animals are treated properly.

Tackling anti-social behaviour should be the top priority for the police say the people of Talbot Green, in a survey carried out by South Wales Police Authority.
Dealing with drug related crime, public protection, including domestic violence, and increasing the visibility of police officers are also the top priorities in the survey, carried out in the town’s Tesco store last week. A total of 114 people took part.

Tackling anti-social behaviour and drug related crime should be the top priorities for the police say the people of Merthyr Tydfil, in a survey carried out by South Wales Police Authority.
Dealing with drug related crime and tackling anti-social behaviour are also the top priority in the survey, carried out in the town’s Asda store last week. A total of 113 people took part, including local Assembly Member, Huw Lewis.

Dealing with anti-social behaviour and increasing the visibility of police officers are also the top priority in the survey, carried out in the town’s Tesco store last week. A total of 109 people took part.

South Wales Police Authority will meet for its Annual General Meeting on Monday 28 June, at 10am at Police Headquarters, Bridgend.
Members of the Police Authority will be given information on the latest crime statistics for the year, as well as information on the latest force developments by Chief Constable Peter Vaughan.

South Wales Police Authority is performing ‘well’ in performance scrutiny and community engagement, according to an inspection report from the Wales Audit Office and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).
In addition, the Authority is performing ‘adequately’ in the areas of setting strategic direction and value for money. The report states that overall, the Authority gives an ‘adequate’ performance, but is in a strong position to make further progress and improve.

South Wales Police has two new Chief Police Officers, following the appointment of Matt Jukes and Julian Kirby as new Assistant Chief Constables.
Matt Jukes, 37, will transfer to South Wales from South Yorkshire Police, where he has previously been borough commander for Rotherham and Director of Intelligence.

South Wales Police Authority is today launching the search for the 2010 Community Safety Volunteer of the Year.
The awards, which are in their sixth year are for anyone who volunteers to keep their local community safe, for example youth club leaders or neighbourhood watch volunteers.
