Police Authority Launches Equality Scheme

South Wales Police Authority has today launched its Equality and Human Rights Scheme.

The Scheme sets out the Authority’s commitments to tackling equality and human rights issues over the next 3 years.

Detailed within the document are how the Authority will tackle equality and human rights issues in terms of employment and recruitment, our functions and policies and public access to information.

Lead Police Authority Member for Equality, Ms Helen Roberts, said: “Equality has become a key priority in terms of the way we do our work.  We have worked hard with the Force to tackle this, to become as inclusive as possible.  However, we know that inequality, discrimination and disadvantage still exist among communities and individuals in South Wales and that many people can feel excluded from or fearful of police services.
“The actions in the three-year scheme have been drawn up following a number of consultation and involvement processes with members of the public and internal force employees.  We believe that the actions are realistic goals to help us to improve in the key areas where we know we need to deliver.
“The scheme has been developed with members of the public, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped us develop what I believe is a key piece of work for the Authority.”

The scheme is available at the Police Authority’s website at www.southwalespoliceauthority.org.uk.  Alternatively, you can receive a copy through the post by calling the Authority Office on 01656 869366.

Ms Roberts concluded: “South Wales Police Authority is committed to working for equality and fairness for everyone.  We work to ensure that respect for equality and diversity is evident and promoted in all that we do, and this scheme supports out commitment.”
