South Wales Police Authority has today agreed to increase the policing element of council tax by 5% - or 2p per day for a Band D property.

This increase takes the amount paid for policing a Band D household to £169.42 for 2012-13.

South Wales Police Authority will decide the total increase to the police element of council tax for 2012-13 during its meeting on Monday, 13 February at 10am, Police Headquarters, Bridgend.

The Police Authority and Force are already facing a tough financial situation, because of funding cuts by Central Government.  The Authority will hear from the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Constable as to how much money is needed to help bridge the gap.
