Donation to local action group

Hawthorn Voluntary Playground Action Group is now £2500 better off, thanks to a donation from South Wales Police Authority.

The grant, given from the Authority’s Police Property Act Fund, was awarded to help renovate and replace playground equipment in the Hawthorn area of Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Vice-Chair of the Police Authority, Mr John Littlechild MBE, JP, said: “The Police Property Act Fund must be used to help charitable and voluntary organisations.  Hawthorn Voluntary Playground Action Group are very deserved recipients of the grant.  The work they are looking to do to renovate the playground area for the use of young people is excellent, and I am pleased that this money is being used for a good purpose.”

Property which comes into the possession of the police in connection with a crime and where the owner cannot be found can be sold, with the money being kept in what is known as the Police Property Act Fund.  The same is true for property which has been forfeited by convicted persons by order of a court, as it was used or intended for use in a crime.

Money in the Fund may then be used to make payments for charitable purposes.  South Wales Police Authority is responsible for the distribution of the fund.
