South Wales Police Authority

Consultation Strategy

Consultation Strategy

South Wales Police Authority takes its legal responsibility of consulting with local communities very seriously, and undertakes a number of opinion surveys and campaigns each year.

All Police Authorities must perform three key duties:

1. To secure an efficient and effective police service.

2. To secure Best Value, i.e. continuous improvement in the way its functions are exercised having regard to economy, efficiency and effectiveness.

3. To make arrangements for obtaining:
  • The views of local people about the policing of their area; and
  • The co-operation of local people in preventing crime.

In performing the third duty, the Police Authority has a duty to consult with local communities on a number of issues, including setting the policing priorities and budget for the next year, in particular the policing element of the local council tax.
