Tammie Richards

Bridgend & Overall Winner – Tammie Richards

Tammie Richards works with youths between the ages of 11 and 25 years.  She organises trips in the school holiday periods which range from outward bound courses to visits to local landmarks.

In addition, Tammie runs a “drop-in centre” at the Sarn Community entre where the local youths attend to use the computers and socialize. She is known by residents in the area she covers and is often phoned to attend hotspots of youth annoyance.

Tammie is a vital link between the police and the local youths, and provides activities for the youths to get involved with, which in turn reduces incidents involving youth annoyance and anti-social behaviour.

Sue Nichols

Cardiff Winner – Sue Nichols

Sue Nichols works incredibly hard as a volunteer within the area Cathays area of the city. She runs a successful Neighbourhood Watch group and is very welcoming to the police. She also assists in police initiatives, for example the running of the Police and Community Together (PACT) meetings.

In addition to her work with Neighbourhood Watch, Sue is the verger of the local church. She is also a trained child protection officer for churches within Cardiff, skills which she continues to utilise to protect the children of the area.

She runs a scout club held on Allensbank Road. She is also publicity officer for the support group for osteoporosis. It should be noted that Sue does more than described above whenever she can.
Kaye Burnett

Merthyr Tydfil Winner – Kaye Burnett

Kaye Burnett started a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in the Cilhaul Estate area of Merthyr Tydfil, because of problems within the Estate, including youth annoyance, speeding cars and drugs.

Kaye, along with her committee, worked together to make a hut in the Estate usable for Neighbourhood Watch meetings.  With a lot of hard work, they have made the hut into a focus of the community, which is now a meeting place for many activities, including a playgroup and coffee mornings.
Clive Phillips

Neath Port Talbot Winner – Clive Phillips

Clive Phillips is the co-ordinator for Neighbourhood Watch for the Cwmllynfell and Rhiw Fawr areas.  He is also the secretary for the Afan Tawe Nedd Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Clive has played a key role within the association in supporting the Community Safety Partnership with key initiatives. One such example is that he has helped the association buy a mobile camera which is going to be used in the houses of vulnerable victims of crime to stop the victims becoming repeat victims. In particular this camera is going to be used to deter anti social behaviour and bogus callers.

Clive is heavily involved with the community of Cwmllynfell, he organises community days, and is always available to assist any schemes that the Neath Port Talbot  Community Safety partnership are organising.
Gerard Doel & Gloria Williams

Rhondda Cynon Taf Winner – Gloria Williams & Gerard Doel

Gerard Doel & Gloria Williams have combined their efforts and rallied the community in the Rhiwgarn, Trebanog area to make their streets safer.  Through their own determination and endeavours, they have managed to have CCTV installed which has been of evidential value in a recent murder enquiry on the estate.

Rhiwgarn Trebanog has historically been a very difficult place to police with little or no community response to any crimes in the area.  This new link with the public has renewed police confidence with the residents.

Their work has reassured the majority of the residents.  It has transformed an apathetic group into an active community.
Malcolm Davies

Swansea Winner – Malcolm Davies

Malcolm Davies volunteers with Victim Support.  With this, he visits victims of burglary, assault, criminal damage amongst other crimes.  He also checks a persons home for safety and if needed will fit locks to their property and give advice on crime prevention.

Malcolm provides the community with the knowledge that there is someone to talk to at a time of great vulnerability and isolation.  He also provides peace of mind to victims, by fitting locks to their property.

With elderly people, he will spend time chatting and making them feel at ease.  Sometimes this helps more than anything that is done to the home.  Many elderly people are lonely and away from family and time is very much appreciated by them.

Alf Killick

Vale of Glamorgan Winner – Alf Killick

Alf Killick is Group Co-ordinator for seven Watch Schemes in Dinas Powys. He is a founder member of the committee of the Dinas Powys Neighbourhood Watch Association and, for the part three years, has been Deputy Chairman of that Association.

He is also Honorary Treasurer of the Vale of Glamorgan Neighbourhood Watch Association, a post he has held for over five years. Despite advancing years (he is now 83 years old) Alf has lost none of his enthusiasm and energy.
