The Animal Welfare Visiting Scheme provides an independent check on the welfare of the hardworking dogs and horses of South Wales Police. Our volunteers carry out regular visits to the Dog and Mounted Section at Waterton, Bridgend.
The Panel is chaired by Joy Whinney, an Independent Member of the Police Authority.
During 2010-11, 41 visits took place – 79% of the target.
In addition to checking the welfare of the animals, the visitors also inspect the conditions of the stables and kennels where they are cared for and the vehicles in which they travel. Visitors have also observed parts of the basic dog handling training sessions.
