The Chief Executive is the Statutory Officer under Section 16 of the Police Act 1996, and the Monitoring Officer to the Authority.  He is directly accountable to the Police Authority, reporting on a day to day basis to the Chair. 
 
Duties include:
  • To act as principal adviser to the Authority in the exercise of its statutory powers and responsibilities and to the Members of the Authority on their rights, duties and conduct as Members.
  • Liaison with various organisations, including HMIC, Audit Commission, Internal Auditors, Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), Standards Board for England and Ombudsman for Wales, Police Authorities of Wales (PAW), National Assembly for Wales, Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA), Association of Police Authorities (APA) and staff associations.
