South Wales Police Authority will decide the total increase to the police element of council tax for 2012-13 during its meeting on Monday, 13 February at 10am, Police Headquarters, Bridgend.
 
The Police Authority and Force are already facing a tough financial situation, because of funding cuts by Central Government.  The Authority will hear from the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Constable as to how much money is needed to help bridge the gap.

2012 brings in a new era for South Wales Police Authority, with the appointment of Cerith Thomas as the organisations new Chief Executive.
 
Mr Thomas, 45, from Maesteg, has been appointed on an interim basis, until the election of the Police and Crime Commissioner in November.  Before his appointment, Mr Thomas was the Deputy Chief Executive of the Police Authority, and has been involved with the organisation since 1995.

Alan Fry, Chief Executive of South Wales Police Authority, is to retire from the organisation on 31 December after over 30 years involvement with policing.
 
Mr Fry, 60, from Swansea, became involved with South Wales Police in 1980, and rose to the top post in 1995.  He received an OBE for services to policing in the New Years Honours list in January 2009.

Councillor Russell Roberts, Chair of South Wales Police Authority, said: “The Taxpayers Alliance report provides a crude picture of the budgets of Police Authorities.
 
“No background detail of any of the forces is provided.  For example, South Wales is the eight biggest force out of the 43 in Wales and England.  We have 19 members, not the average 17.  Our work covers seven large local authorities, a capital city, 1.2million people and working with two different Governments; one at Westminster and the other at Cardiff.

South Wales Police Authority has received a total of 120 applications for a donation from the Police Property Act Fund.
 
Applications were sought from organisations across South Wales who help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour or divert people away from crime.
