The Police Authority and Force asked for peoples opinions on the their policing priorities during September and October 2008.
The consultation was carried out in a number of ways, including roadshows, postal surveys and kiosks in local Post Offices.
Some of the key findings were:

74% felt safe walking alone in their local neighbourhood during the day. However, only 38% felt safe walking alone after dark.

44% of respondents were either satisfied or very satisfied with the service provided by South Wales Police, with 43% unsatisfied or very unsatisfied.

33% felt the service from the police had improved over the last year, with 22% feeling it had got worse.

Anti-social behaviour and more community based local police officers were the top priorities.

Reducing and detecting crime was found to be the most important choice, with 32%.
The consultation was undertaken using a number of different approaches, including interactive touch screen kiosks in 15 local Post Offices, questionnaires in a further 150 Post Offices, an online survey and roadshows.
A total of 2121 people took part in the consultation. The breakdown of this was:

The results were provided to the Police Authority, and have assisted in setting the priorities for the next year.
