Your Police: Your Priorities Survey Results 2009

Police
Between September and October 2009 a survey was undertaken by the Police Authority, asking for opinions on policing priorities.

The survey contained a number of different questions relating to the policing service and priorities. Respondents were also encouraged to leave any additional comments for information. In total, 499 people took part in the survey.

The survey was used as an opportunity to ask a number of questions, under three banners – Your Policing Service, Your Experiences and Your Priorities. This enabled questions to be asked about the policing pledge and confidence in the police dealing with local issues, along with the priority questions.

Key Findings

  • Overall, the majority of the 499 who took part in the Your Police: Your Priorities survey felt that the overall police service had improved during the last 12 months, but 60% of people had not seen any change in the local service.

  • 38% of respondents had some or full knowledge of the Policing Pledge. Only 24% had no awareness of it.

  • The ongoing priority throughout the survey was an increase in policing presence in local neighbourhoods. Other priorities included building confidence in the service and reducing drug use and dealing.

The results have been presented to the Police Authority to assist in setting the priorities for the next year.
