The Home Office has issued the ‘Policing in the 21st Century: Reconnecting police and the people’ consultation document.
Speaking of the proposals within the document, Chair of South Wales Police Authority, Councillor Russell Roberts, said: “Home Secretary Theresa May has set out the Coalition Government’s proposals for the overhaul of the police service. As an Authority, we recognise that changes need to be made, and welcome the drive to cut the role of Central Government in policing, thus allowing greater concentration on local priorities.

South Wales Police Authority has today launched its Equality and Human Rights Scheme.
The Scheme sets out the Authority’s commitments to tackling equality and human rights issues over the next 3 years.

South Wales Police Authority has today published its Annual Report for 2009-10.
The annual report, which can be found at the Police Authority website –
www.southwalespoliceauthority.org.uk, highlights the excellent performance of the police during the last 12 months. The report shows that nearly 14,000 fewer crimes took place between April 2009 and March 2010, which is equal to 37 less victims of crime every day.

Glyn-Aman Neighbourhood Watch is now nearly £1000 better off, thanks to a donation from South Wales Police Authority.
The grant, given from the Authority’s Police Property Act Fund, was awarded to help the group provide the school children from the local junior school with high visibility waistcoats for their ‘walking bus’.

Councillor Jayne Woodman has been welcomed as a new Police Authority Member for Swansea.
Councillor Woodman, who is a Liberal Democrat councillor, representing the Uplands ward of the city, replaces Councillor Sue Waller-Thomas.

Increasing the visibility of police officers should be the top priority for the police say the people of Neath, in a survey carried out by South Wales Police Authority.
Dealing with drug related crime and tackling anti-social behaviour are also the top priority in the survey, carried out in the town’s Morrison’s store last week. A total of 131 people took part.
