Donation to Local Neighbourhood Watch Group

Glyn-Aman Neighbourhood Watch is now nearly £1000 better off, thanks to a donation from South Wales Police Authority.

The grant, given from the Authority’s Police Property Act Fund, was awarded to help the group from Cwmamon, Aberdare, to provide the school children from the local Glynhafod Junior School with high visibility waistcoats for their ‘walking bus’.

Local Police Authority Member, Ms Helen Roberts, said: “The Police Property Act Fund must be used to help charitable and voluntary organisations.  Glyn-Aman Neighbourhood Watch are very deserved recipients of the grant.  The walking bus initiative with the Glynhafod Junior School is excellent, and I am pleased that this money is being used for a good purpose.”

Property which comes into the possession of the police in connection with a crime and where the owner cannot be found can be sold, with the money being kept in what is known as the Police Property Act Fund.  The same is true for property which has been forfeited by convicted persons by order of a court, as it was used or intended for use in a crime.

Money in the Fund may then be used to make payments for charitable purposes.  South Wales Police Authority is responsible for the distribution of the fund.
