Fantastic Response to Community Volunteer Awards

A fantastic response has been given to this years Community Safety Volunteer of the Year awards, South Wales Police Authority has revealed.

In total, 40 nominations were received across the four categories – volunteer of the year, young volunteer, volunteer team and volunteer initiative.

Speaking of the nominations, Chair of the Police Authority, Councillor Russell Roberts, said: “We are pleased with the 40 nominations we have received from all across South Wales.
“The response has once again been excellent, and it shows the amount of voluntary work which is taking place un-noticed and un-rewarded in our communities.”

The awards were started in 2005, to highlight the excellent work being voluntarily done by local people.

The awards are for anyone who shows a commitment to voluntarily working for and with the community, and who shows determination in ensuring the streets in which we all live are safe.

Councillor Roberts said: “I would like to thank everyone who nominated an individual or a team for this years award.  The Police Authority now has the unenviable task of selecting the winners.
“In addition, I would like to pass on our thanks to everyone across South Wales who volunteers to help keep our streets safe, whether nominated for the award or not.  You are our shining lights.”

The winners of the awards will be announced at a special ceremony on 30 September.
