This Annual Report highlights and celebrates the excellent work carried out by the Independent Custody and Animal Welfare Visitors of South Wales Police Authority.
Custody Visiting
The last year has seen changes to the set up of the scheme in South Wales, with the merger of the South and North areas of volunteers to create a new East Panel. While met with caution initially, the new set up benefits our volunteers, as it allows for a greater variety in visiting partners and custody suites.
Our thanks are passed to Anne Abel, who was the Chair of the North Panel, and Shirley Hodges, who acted as Co-ordinator for the South Panel. Their support during the merger process was gratefully received.
2010-11 has seen a continuation of the excellent work by our volunteers.
We would like to thank all our Independent Custody Visitors for their commitment to the scheme over the past year. They have given up their own time to reassure the public and protect the rights and welfare of those who find themselves in custody.
In particular, thanks are given to the Panel Co-ordinators, who work hard to ensure that visits take place.
The Authority would also like to thank the police officers who have helped to develop the scheme and resolve issues when they have arisen.
